Job summary

Corning Incorporated seeks a Staff Mechanical Engineer, Automation & Equipment Design to join the Automation Equipment Design group at Sullivan Park in Corning, NY. This onsite role involves 25%–75% travel, with opportunities to design, build, and commission advanced automation systems for manufacturing plants.

The role requires 8+ years in integrated machine-automation projects, proficiency in CAD/GD&T, and hands-on experience with robot cells, AGVs, conveyors, and material handling.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related.
• 8+ years of experience delivering integrated machine and automation systems from design through installation.
• Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD, GD&T, and ANSI Y14.5 drafting standards.
• Hands-on experience with robot cells, AGVs, conveyors, or material handling systems.
• Experience managing external vendors or system integrators.
• Ability to travel 25%–75% based on project phase, including potential international travel.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver custom process machines and automation systems, including robot cells, AGVs, conveyors, and material-handling equipment.
• Define machine design specifications, tolerance analyses, and test plans; evaluate data and make engineering recommendations.
• Specify and manage external vendors and system integrators through design, build, and installation phases.
• Lead or support on-site commissioning, production start-up, and operator training at manufacturing facilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate process requirements into reliable mechanical designs.
• Track project budgets and schedules; report status to stakeholders.
