Job summary

Rivian is seeking a highly motivated mechanical engineer to advance our electronic hardware components for EV vehicles. You will collaborate with multiple teams to define requirements, design enclosures, manage thermal performance, and verify parts for low mass and cost.

You will lead CAD and DFMEA efforts, optimize designs through CAE results, and contribute to a cutting-edge, sustainable EV program in Palo Alto.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of industry experience in automotive or related fields; autonomy experience preferred.
• B.S. or higher in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
• Experience designing components or systems including mechanism, thermal, PCB, sensor integration, and UI/UX considerations.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams to drive product innovations.
• Experience with PCB design and thermal design for integrated systems.
• Lead solving grounding, thermal and structural electrical challenges.
• Proficient CAD designer with CATIA V5/V6/3DX; strong surfacing and modeling skills.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills.
• Lead drawing creation with GD&T to ASME Y14.5 for tolerance analyses.
• Identify optimization opportunities from CAE/testing results.
• Experience with manufacturing methods (sheet metal, stamping, plastics, cast metals, CNC, 3D printing).
• Experience in EV systems, automotive design/manufacturing, and low-voltage integration; direct experience preferred.
• Experience leading DFMEA processes.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical development of ECUs and next-gen internal compute hardware.
• Define mechanical requirements with domain and architecture teams; perform trade studies.
• Develop PCB MCOS, enclosures, and thermal management designs; collaborate with EEs and CAE.
• Create component drawings and perform tolerance analyses.
• Support thermal/FEA studies to optimize vehicle components.
• Apply first principles to identify and solve issues with scientific methods.
• Document mechanical functional requirements for components and modules.
• Create and execute component design verification plans for low mass, low cost parts.
