Job summary

Rivian is seeking a highly motivated mechanical engineer to advance the development of our electronic hardware components and ECUs for the next generation of EVs.

You will work with cross-functional teams on mechanical design, thermal management, PCB integration, and CAE/FEA studies to deliver low-mass, low-cost, durable parts for the vehicle program.

The role requires 3+ years in automotive or related industry, a BS in mechanical engineering, and CAD proficiency (CATIA preferred).

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years experience in automotive or related industry.
• Experience designing components/systems with mechanism, thermal, PCB, sensor integration, UI/UX considerations, and surface integration.
• Leadership of cross-functional teams to drive innovation.
• Experience leading PCB design, thermal design, PCB integration.
• Knowledge of DFMEA processes and execution.
• Experience with sheet metal, injection molded plastics, cast metals, CNC, 3D printing, etc.
• EV vehicle systems experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support mechanical development of ECUs and internal compute.
• Define mechanical component requirements and perform trade studies for performance, manufacturing, and service.
• Develop PCB MCOs, enclosure designs, thermal management designs; collaborate with EEs and CAE group.
• Create component drawings and perform tolerance analyses with ASME Y14.5 standards.
• Support thermal and FEA studies to optimize vehicle components.
• Use first principles to identify and solve issues through scientific engineering methods.
• Document mechanical functional requirements for custom, semi-custom, and off-the-shelf components.
• Develop verification plans to deliver low mass, low cost, durable parts for the vehicle program.
