Job description

Sr. Marketing Manager, Commercial Development

(Exempt)

Company Overview: Ethos Pet Brands is the parent company of Natural Balance and Canidae pet brands. By joining forces under Ethos Pet Brands, these premium pet food brands strengthen their commitment to delivering the highest quality nutrition. We believe in the power of strong brands to connect with pet parents and create meaningful experiences.

This Sr. Marketing Manager, Commercial Development needs to be a rock star that thrives under pressure and craves the spotlight. This individual is responsible for developing and executing insight-driven marketing programs that accelerate our brands with key retail customers and influence purchase behavior and drive conversion across retail channels. Backed with healthy budgets for customer collaboration, the expectations and visibility are just as big.

This role bridges brand strategy, sales operations and retail execution—translating consumer and shopper insights into impactful programs that win at the shelf, online and in-store. You will collaborate cross-functionally with sales, brand, data analytics, and agency partners to grow performance in key retail accounts while driving brand equity.

A successful candidate will have an intense hunger to win, commitment to dig into the business, and understand data results. A big component of this is demonstrating an ongoing bias for action and strong ability to operate in a world of ambiguity to develop recommendations and solutions that drive the business. While there is ample support and collaboration, this individual needs to deliver thought-leadership and recommendations as a starting point for others to respond to.

The Sr. Marketing Manager, Commercial Development will work remotely, and report to the VP, Commercial Development. The key responsibilities and duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Shopper Strategy & Planning
    • Lead the development of retailer-specific marketing strategies rooted in consumer, shopper, and category insights.
    • Build annual and quarterly shopper marketing plans aligned with brand objectives and customer priorities.
  • Retailer Program Execution
    • Manage end-to-end execution of shopper programs across omni-channel touchpoints (in-store, e-commerce, social, display, events).
    • Develop customized programs for key national accounts (i.e. PetSmart, Petco and Pet Supplies Plus), working closely with sales and customer teams.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration
    • Act as the key link between brand marketing and sales to ensure consistent messaging and effective activation.
    • Partner with creative and external agencies to develop compelling shopper assets and experiences.
  • Measurement & Optimization
    • Track program performance using sales lift, ROI, and engagement metrics; apply learnings to future programs.
    • Manage budget and agency resources effectively to maximize impact.
  • Retailer Relationships
    • Build strong partnerships with retailer marketing teams, ensuring alignment and unlocking co-marketing opportunities.
    • Present and sell in programs to internal stakeholders and retailers.
  • Intrinsic Values & Qualities that need to be demonstrated
    • Leadership: Setting a clear vision and driving an inclusive environment.
    • Strategic & Analytical Thinking: Think critically and strategically, analyze complex information, and make well-informed decisions that align with the company’s long-term goals.
    • Creativity: Generate innovative ideas, solutions, and approaches. Think outside of the box to develop solutions.
    • Strong Communication: Clear, simple articulation of core ideas and recommendations.
    • Strong Collaboration: Commitment to work cross-functionally to drive change and executional excellence.
    • Motivation & Drive: Bias for action/entrepreneurial spirit. Acts like an owner to drive the business and get things done.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field; MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum 6–8+ years of experience in shopper marketing, customer marketing, or brand marketing (preferably in CPG, retail, or pet food).
  • Proven track record of developing and executing shopper marketing campaigns that deliver results.
  • Strong understanding of the retail environment and shopper behavior across channels including brick and mortar, Amazon, and e-commerce.
  • Extensive experience partnering with both brand marketing and sales.
  • Excellent project management, communication skills and leading agency partners.
  • Experience with syndicated data tools (e.g., Nielsen, Stackline) and retail media platforms.
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills.
  • Estimated travel, on average, one two/three-day trip every month.
  • Must be willing to submit a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US.

  • Management of 1-2 direct reports.
  • Experience working with national retailers and understanding their shopper marketing platforms.
