Job summary

Serco is seeking a Marine Engineer to join the Maritime Engineering Operation in Arlington, VA. You will perform analyses, develop engineering deliverables, and support ship and system design across multiple disciplines, with opportunities to lead design studies and on-site shipyard support.

The role requires a ABET-accredited engineering degree, 5 years of experience, strong communication, and willingness to travel; security clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelors in Marine Engineering or related field.
• 5 years of related and progressive experience in Marine Engineering.
• Knowledge of engineering science application for design and production of marine craft.
• Experience with government contracting environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform auxiliary, fluid, mechanical, engine, and propulsion system design or review.
• Apply marine engineering knowledge per regulatory rules and industry standards to develop analyses and products.
• Develop and validate design requirements, prepare specifications, and contribute to technical reports.
• Perform design integrations coordinating inputs from naval architecture and structures to establish machine spaces and features.
• Provide concept and feasibility studies for auxiliary systems (fuel, seawater, water, etc.).
• Provide concept studies for equipment like refrigeration units, pumps, motors, HVAC systems.
• Support design for DD&C from concept through construction.
• Provide onsite engineering support for test sites and shipyard activities.
• Develop machinery arrangements illustrating space allocation and maintenance access.
• Conduct failure analysis and provide engineering solutions via reports.
• Assist with budgeting, cost estimation, and project planning.
