Job summary

Serco Inc. in Arlington, Virginia seeks an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to design marine electrical systems for ships and ship support.

You will work within the Maritime Engineering Operation (MEO) to deliver high-quality designs for Navy and commercial programs, coordinating with cross-functional teams and customers. You will lead electrical design activities, ensure compliance with industry standards, and provide mentorship while traveling for ship checks and design reviews.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Marine Engineering, or related field.
10+ years of experience in the design of marine electrical systems with a professional engineering firm, shipyard, or marine electrical contractor.
Strong knowledge of MS Office, MATLAB, Simulink; PLC programming.

Responsibilities

Lead the design and specification of marine electrical systems from concept through construction, including LV/HV power, switchboards, transformers, UPS, propulsion and thruster electrical systems.
Produce and review electrical design documentation: single-line diagrams, schematics, load analyses, cable schedules, equipment specs, and technical REQs.
Provide project cost and schedule estimates.
Ensure compliance with marine/offshore standards and class rules (IEC, IEEE, DNV, ABS, LR).
Support project execution through FAT, SAT, commissioning, and sea trials.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
Collaborate with mechanical, naval, and software teams; interface with clients, shipyards, vendors, and classification societies.
Identify and mitigate technical risks; travel ~10% for ship checks and reviews.
