Job summary

Exponent Inc. seeks a Managing Engineer with ADAS/AV expertise for its Vehicle Engineering Practice in Phoenix, AZ, with options in Natick, MA, or Menlo Park, CA.

Lead consulting projects evaluating ADAS, AVs, and vehicle performance, while growing the practice and managing client relationships. You will guide project teams, mentor staff, and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables while expanding business opportunities across diverse automotive programs.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of work experience in ADAS, automated vehicles (AVs), and/or vehicle and automotive system design, development, testing, and deployment.
• Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required.
• Ability to leverage industry connections to generate new business and projects.
• Manage and foster strong client relationships.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non-technical personnel, and clients and present technical topics clearly.
• Strong leadership and experience mentoring junior staff.
• Field and/or lab measurement experience with hands-on skills.
• Willingness to work overtime and travel when required.

Responsibilities

• Managing projects from initiation to completion; communicate updates to team, clients, and staff; ensure deadlines and quality work; identify business opportunities.
• Developing and growing the Vehicle Engineering Practice by generating new business and projects.
• Developing and managing client relationships.
• Managing, mentoring, and providing project work for junior consulting staff.
• Handling project and cost management on casework.
• Setting up and executing various test programs, including full-scale vehicle tests and component or control system evaluations.
• Continuing to develop specialized automotive expertise in design, performance, and testing.
