Job summary

EY seeks a senior AI/Applied ML engineer to build agents that execute end-to-end workflows with verifiable outcomes. You’ll shape agent architectures, tools, and governance across distributed systems, ensuring safety, observability, and controllability in real enterprise environments. Travel up to 50% is expected in a hybrid setting.

You’ll join Challenger Core, a team creating reusable patterns and operating guardrails that accelerate new services while controlling risk and cost.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required.
• 9–12+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong record in software or applied ML with ownership of live systems.
• Hands‑on evidence of shipping large‑language‑model apps or agent workflows.
• Strong Python/TypeScript production service skills.
• Experience with model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, and evaluation.
• Experience with asynchronous work, state, concurrency, retries, and failure recovery.
• Experience implementing access boundaries and scoped authority.
• Evidence of improving live systems via traces, metrics, logs and incident analysis.
• Travel and on-site up to 50% (hybrid work).

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model and design agent architectures.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts and proper error handling.
• Engineer agent behavior across planning, routing, delegation, and handoff.
• Create durable context using instructions, user state, memory, and feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities and budgets.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests on verified outcomes and recovery.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state and safe retries.
• Make behavior observable via end-to-end tracing and replay for insights.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points for inspection.
• Build shared capability by collaborating across product and security teams.
