Job summary

EY is seeking a seniorApplied AI/Software Engineer to build AI agents that move from intent to verified outcomes in a hybrid US role. You’ll design execution loops, tools, and governance for durable, steerable agent workflows across enterprise integrations.

Expect travel up to 50% and collaboration with product, security, and evaluation teams to deliver measurable value. This role emphasizes production reliability, observable telemetry, and safe operator controls within EY’s Challenger program,

Qualifications

• Production engineering: strong software engineering and distributed-systems judgment.
• Agent architecture: reason about planning, tools, state, handoffs, coordination.
• AI application depth: knowledge of model APIs, structured outputs, context and tool use.
• Evaluation discipline: measure complete trajectories and verified outcomes.
• Security and operability: least privilege, observability, resilience and recovery.
• Product judgment: balance quality, latency, cost and user control.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model for deterministic vs autonomous workflows.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts and safe error handling.
• Engineer agent behavior across planning, routing, delegation, stopping and handoffs.
• Create durable context using instructions, user state and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities and budgets.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests and recovered workflows.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state, checkpointing, and safe retries.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end traces and production insights.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points for human oversight.
• Publish reusable agent patterns and lessons across teams.
