Job summary

EY is seeking an experienced AI/ML engineer to build long-running, enterprise-grade agent systems that operate across complex workflows. You will shape execution loops, tools, context, and governance to ensure deterministic outcomes while enabling autonomy where valuable.

You will work at the Challenger Core within EY, developing reusable patterns and risk-aware solutions that scale across business units, with travel up to 50% and a hybrid office presence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
• 9-12+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong record in software or applied machine-learning engineering with ownership of production systems and their live behavior.
• Hands-on evidence of shipping large-language-model applications, agents, or complex model-driven workflows used for real work.
• Programming depth in Python, TypeScript, or another language used for production services and integrations.
• Distributed execution: asynchronous work, state, concurrency, retries, and failure recovery.
• Identity and controls: access boundaries and scoped authority for applications or automated workloads.
• Production learning: improving live systems through traces, metrics, logs, incident analysis, and durable remediation.
• Travel and On-site requirements: up to 50% travel and hybrid office opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model and design agent architectures with deterministic steps or single-agent loops when justified.
• Build dependable tools: connectors and interfaces with clear contracts and validated outcomes.
• Engineer agent behavior: planning, routing, delegation, stopping, retry, and handoff across workflows.
• Create durable context: combine instructions, user state, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, and budgets.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests measuring verified task success and recovery.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state, checkpoints, and graceful degradation.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end traces and replay for failure diagnosis.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points for inspection and safe resumption.
• Build shared capability by partnering across product, platform, security, and evaluation teams.
