Job summary

EY is seeking a Senior Applied AI Engineer to build long-running agents and enterprise integrations. You will shape execution loops, tools, context, and safety controls to deliver deterministic workflows with scalable autonomy.

Working in Challenger Core within EY, you’ll own production systems, ship model‑driven workflows, and navigate complex failures while collaborating across product, security, and evaluation teams. Travel up to 50% and hybrid office access are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• 7–9 years of software or applied ML engineering with ownership of production systems and live behavior.
• Hands-on evidence of shipping large-language-model applications, agents, or complex model-driven workflows used for real work.
• Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or another language used for production services and integrations.
• Applied AI patterns: model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, tool use, and evaluation of variable behavior.
• Distributed execution: asynchronous work, state, concurrency, idempotency, retries, and failure recovery.
• Identity and controls: access boundaries and scoped authority for applications or automated workloads.
• Travel and on-site requirements: up to 50% travel with hybrid office access.

Responsibilities

• Choose and design agent architectures with appropriate complexity.
• Build connectors and interfaces with clear contracts for validated outcomes.
• Engineer agent behavior across planning, routing, delegation, stopping, retry, and handoff across workflows.
• Create durable context by combining instructions, user state, retrieval, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, budgets, and approval points.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests that measure verified task success, tool use, recovery, and human takeover.
• Operate long-running execution with durable state, checkpointing, safe retries, versioned releases, rollback, and graceful degradation.
• Make behavior observable with end-to-end traces and replay for debugging and improvements.
• Protect user control with clear intervention points to inspect, interrupt, redirect, and resume agent work.
• Build shared capability by collaborating across product, platform, knowledge, security, and evaluation teams.
