Job summary

Cognizant invites applications for a Senior Mainframe Developer position in Hartford, CT. This role focuses on designing, enhancing, and supporting healthcare claims applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and CICS.

You will lead offshore teams and drive delivery with onsite coordination. Ideal candidates have 8+ years of hands-on mainframe experience, strong analytical skills, and familiarity with Agile delivery.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience developing mainframe applications with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ.
• Experience with healthcare claims adjudication processes and related business workflows.
• Knowledge of code migration and release management, including package creation, environment promotion, deployment validation, and backout procedures.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for complex application and production issues.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively in an Agile, onsite and offshore delivery environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain healthcare claims applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS, and MQ.
• Translate business requirements into scalable, efficient, and compliant mainframe solutions that support claims adjudication workflows.
• Troubleshoot production issues, optimize application performance, conduct code reviews, and implement sustainable fixes.
• Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, code migration, production deployment, post-implementation validation, and backout activities.
• Provide technical leadership to offshore team members, coordinate onsite and offshore delivery, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to achieve project goals.
