Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer to design, enhance, and support healthcare claims applications. You will join the Application Development and Maintenance team, collaborating with analysts, QA, PMs, support teams, and global engineers on challenging mainframe solutions.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, problem solving, and delivery excellence in a largely remote environment with potential in-person interviews at Cognizant offices as needed.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience developing mainframe applications with COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS and MQ.
• Experience with healthcare claims adjudication processes and related workflows.
• Knowledge of code migration and release management, including packaging, promotion, deployment validation and backout procedures.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills for complex issues.
• Excellent communication and collaboration in agile, onsite and offshore delivery environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain healthcare claims applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, CICS and MQ.
• Translate business requirements into scalable, efficient mainframe solutions for claims adjudication workflows.
• Troubleshoot production issues and optimize application performance; perform code reviews and implement fixes.
• Support system integration testing, user acceptance testing, deployment, validation, and post-implementation activities.
• Provide technical leadership to offshore team members and coordinate onsite and offshore delivery.
