Job summary

Commonwealth Senior Living in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a Dining Services Director to lead the execution of the signature dining program. You will provide friendly, responsive service to create an exceptional dining experience for residents and uphold the company values.

The role requires managing staff, ensuring safety and sanitation, coordinating menus and dietary needs, and maintaining costs within budget while delivering high-quality meals across shifts.

Qualifications

• Certification in the Food Handlers Course or equivalent.
• Previous management experience in the food service industry.
• Ability to read and write English.
• Willingness and ability to learn new tasks.
• Must be available to work varied shifts and weekends.
• Ability to lift heavy objects; stand and walk short distances; tolerate kitchen heat.
• Must be free of communicable diseases.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve nutritious meals to residents in a safe sanitary manner per health regs.
• Prepare food for regular and therapeutic diets per planned menu and doctor orders.
• Maintain proper food quantities and adhere to time schedules.
• Prepare food for special events as instructed by the Executive Director.
• Maintain costs within budgeted parameters.
• Taste and verify quality and palatability of meals before service.
• Maintain proper food temperatures and record temperatures per policy.
• Report hazardous equipment to the Executive Director.
• Make menu and recipe improvement recommendations.
• Attend workshops and trainings to stay current in healthcare dining.
• Manage staff and scheduling to meet department needs.
• Inspect dietary area for regulatory compliance; ensure sanitation.
• Develop and use inventory control procedures.
• Purchase food, supplies, and equipment as needed.
• Maintain stock levels and ensure 72-hour emergency food/water supply.
• Maintain resident care confidentiality.
• Supervise dining department associates’ schedules and tasks.
• Other duties as assigned.
