Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory in Reston, VA seeks a Systems Administrator to maintain HPC systems, manage Linux-based environments, and ensure reliability across servers and applications. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree with multiple years of relevant experience, strong Linux, Ansible, and GitLab expertise, and the ability to work onsite in Reston, VA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
• Strong Linux (Red Hat), Ansible scripting, and GitLab pipelines expertise.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve server/workstation/A/V issues and outages during normal business hours.
• Eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher, may require government background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and support systems and software focusing on Linux (Red Hat), Ansible, and GitLab pipelines.
• Develop deployment plans, schedules, and requirements for systems.
• Create or improve scripts and tooling for systems management.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve server/workstation/A/V issues and respond to outages.
• Test and implement upgrades and patches for OS, Kubernetes, and M&S applications.
• Monitor backups, CI/CD pipelines, and system reliability.
• Create and maintain system documentation.
