Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University is seeking a Systems Administrator for its Reston, VA site to maintain high-performance computing systems and cloud tooling. The role includes OS and hardware maintenance, automation scripting, and upgrade testing in a DoD-affiliated environment.

You will work on Kubernetes platforms, model & simulation apps, and back-end infrastructure while ensuring security clearances and on-site operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required; 1+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Associate degree with relevant experience also considered; no mandatory prior experience required.

Responsibilities

• Execute, improve, and monitor scripts and automation tools for systems management.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve server, workstation, and A/V issues; respond to outages during normal business hours.
• Test and implement upgrades and patches to OS, Kubernetes, and M&S applications.
• Maintain system reliability by monitoring, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Monitor backups and emergency response plans; ensure data integrity and restore capabilities.
• Manage end-user issues; provide timely resolution and documentation.
• Evaluate and recommend software/infrastructure improvements and solutions.
• Create and maintain system documentation for processes and configurations.
