Job summary

Penn State’s Applied Research Laboratory seeks a Systems Administrator to manage HPC and cloud tooling in Reston, VA. You will install and troubleshoot Linux systems, manage GitLab pipelines, and ensure performance and security across containers and M&S apps.

Responsibilities include automation scripting, upgrades, backups, and documentation to support DoD‑level workloads. On-site only, with background checks and security clearances as required.

Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's Degree and 1+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Experience installing, configuring, updating systems and software with Linux and Ansible.
• Strong troubleshooting for servers, workstations, and A/V equipment; respond to outages during business hours.

Responsibilities

• Execute, improve, and monitor scripts and automation tools for systems management.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve server, workstation, and A/V issues; respond to outages.
• Test and implement upgrades/patches for OS, Kubernetes, and M&S applications.
• Maintain system reliability by monitoring and testing; review backup plans.
