Job summary

Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory in Reston, VA seeks a Systems Administrator to maintain HPC systems, Linux servers, and cloud tooling. You will install, troubleshoot, and upgrade software, monitor performance, and ensure back-ups and disaster recovery readiness.

The role requires Linux expertise, Ansible scripting, and experience with Kubernetes. DoD-level eligibility may be required; on-site Reston, VA. ARL is a DoD SkillBridge partner and supports security clearance processes.

Qualifications

• Experience installing, configuring and updating Linux systems (Red Hat).
• Ability to diagnose server, workstation, and A/V issues and respond to outages.
• Experience applying updates/patches for OS, Kubernetes, and M&S applications.
• Eligibility for access to classified information at the Secret level or higher (background investigation may be required).

Responsibilities

• Execute, improve and monitor scripts and automation tools for systems management.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve server/workstation/A/V issues and outages.
• Test and implement upgrades/patches for OS, Kubernetes, and M&S applications.
• Maintain system reliability through monitoring and testing.
• Review emergency response and backup plans for installed systems.
• Create and maintain system documentation for continuous improvement.
