Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to guide the design of high‑voltage substations, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical excellence from concept through construction. This role can be performed remotely from within the United States with a preference for candidates near our Westborough, MA office for hybrid work.

You will collaborate with clients, cross‑functional teams, and vendors to deliver safe, reliable power infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• 10+ years of experience in Substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and design power utility substations with adherence to codes and client standards.
• Design ground grids, lightning protection, and grounding plans.
• Perform calculations (AC/DC load, ampacity, bus spans).
• Create equipment specs, scopes, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to ensure project success.
• Lead QA/QC reviews and mentor junior engineers and designers.
