Job summary

ASML US, LLC in San Diego seeks a Senior Laser & Optics Design Engineer to translate emerging laser/optical concepts into engineered, testable systems for next-generation LPP-EUV light sources and DUV lasers.

The role combines optical design, modeling, hands-on experiments, integration, and validation to mature technologies within project goals, reporting to the Source Research team lead.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. with 3+ years in laser/optics, or MS with 6+ years in related fields.
• Strong foundation in laser & optical system design, integration and troubleshooting.
• Ability to translate evolving system needs into subsystem designs and verification plans.
• Experience with optical modeling and multidisciplinary analyses to guide design.
• Hands-on capability to design, build, and validate laser/optical hardware.

Responsibilities

• Execute detailed design, integration, and validation of laser and optical systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver program objectives.
• Develop models/analyses (optical, thermal, structural, gain) to guide decisions.
• Translate system needs into implementable subsystem requirements and tests.
• Lead design reviews, tests planning, risk management, and documentation.
• Design, build, and commission experimental hardware and prototypes.
• Define verification/validation activities for performance, reliability, and safety.
• Drive improvements using data-driven analysis of test results.
• Support technology transfer from research to development and scalable production.
