Job summary

Cognizant seeks a skilled Java Developer to join the engineering team and work on OSS components in a containerized cloud environment. The role emphasizes Java, RESTful APIs, and database expertise while mentoring teammates and collaborating with platform and infra groups.

Hybrid work with a mix of client-site presence in Riverwoods, IL and remote tasks, aligning with project needs and work-life balance. Strong CI/CD experience and OSS deployment knowledge are key.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Java development with strong knowledge of Core Java, OOP, Collections, Concurrency, and Exception Handling.
• Hands-on experience with Java frameworks including Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, JPA, and RESTful API development.
• Strong database expertise with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL, and development of stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
• Experience with Git, Agile methodologies, SDLC, and software debugging/troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with AWS services, OpenShift/Kubernetes, container technologies, microservices architecture, messaging systems (Kafka/RabbitMQ), and CI/CD pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Develop, customize, and maintain OSS components and create containerized deployments using OpenShift (OCP) and internal deployment tools.
• Design, develop, and support Java-based applications and RESTful APIs using Spring Boot, Hibernate, and related frameworks.
• Build and maintain database solutions, including stored procedures, triggers, functions, and performance optimization across multiple database platforms.
• Collaborate with platform, DevOps, and cloud teams to implement CI/CD pipelines, microservices, and AWS-based solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and mentor team members on software development best practices.
