Qualifications

• Reads specifications or blueprints to determine locations, quantities, or sizes of material.
• Proficient in safe use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools.
• Wields steel pieces using torches, welding equipment or related tools.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate with supervision.

Responsibilities

• Reads specifications or blueprints to determine locations, quantities, or sizes of material required.
• Fabricates metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
• Unloads and positions prefabricated steel units for hoisting; signals hoisting equipment operators to lift structural members.
• Verifies alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, lasers, or levels.
• Cuts, bends, or welds steel pieces with appropriate tools.
• Positions structural steel members using turnbuckles, crowbars, or jacks.
• Bolts structural-steel members in place for riveting, bolting, or welding.
• Assembles hoisting equipment to move heavy materials.
• Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities and determining time, costs, resources needed.
