Job summary

TIC - The Industrial Company is seeking a skilled laborer to lay out, install, assemble and erect steel per blueprints and specifications at the job site. You will work with cranes and rigging to position heavy members and verify exact alignment, joining parts by welding, bolting or riveting as required.

Candidate will read specs, use layout tools, and perform measurements while adhering to safety rules in a demanding environment. Equal opportunity employer and long shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or related area.
• Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for position.
• Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
• Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools and layout tools as well as measurement tools.

Responsibilities

• Reads specifications or blueprints to determine locations, quantities, or sizes of material required.
• Fabricates metal parts such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
• Unloads and positions prefabricated steel units for hoisting; hoists steel beams, girders, or columns using cranes or signaling hoisting equipment.
• Verifies alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
• Cuts, bends, or welds steel pieces with torches, shears, or welding equipment.
• Forces steel members into final positions using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools.
• Bolts structural members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding.
• Assemble hoisting equipment or riggings to move heavy equipment or materials.
• Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; determining time, costs, resources, or materials.
• Inspect work for compliance with contract plans; identify deficiencies and take corrective action.
