Job summary

Baton Rouge General Medical Center seeks a detail-oriented Sr. Inpatient Coding Specialist to assign diagnostic and procedural codes for discharged records, supporting accurate reimbursements and regulatory compliance.

You will abstract information into the EHR, apply coding guidelines, and maintain data quality while collaborating with physicians and clinical staff. Remote after training on site, with strong focus on accuracy.

Qualifications

• Six years inpatient Medicare coding experience preferred.
• Certification in CCS, RHIT or RHIA preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRG and inpatient coding guidelines.
• Ability to abstract and analyze medical records for coding accuracy.
• Strong communication and collaboration with physicians.

Responsibilities

• Review and assign diagnostic and procedural codes to inpatient records.
• Abstract clinical information into the electronic health information system.
• Apply coding and sequencing guidelines per regulations and reimbursement rules.
• Maintain coding productivity and accuracy meeting turnaround targets.
• Ensure completeness and integrity of coded data for reporting and reimbursement.
• Identify and address documentation deficiencies affecting coding.
• Communicate with physicians and clinical staff for clarification.
• Audit incomplete records and follow up on delinquent charts.
• Maintain control procedures to ensure accurate coded information.
• Utilize EHR and coding systems to support department goals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
