Job summary

Baton Rouge General seeks an experienced medical coder to assign diagnostic and procedure codes to discharged patient records and support reimbursement processes. The role emphasizes accuracy, HIPAA compliance, and teamwork.

The position requires 10 years of coding experience, strong knowledge of coding systems, and completion of HIPAA guidelines. Training up to 6 months may be onsite; remote work follows thereafter with flexible options.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; AAPC certification preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of general coding experience.
• Strong knowledge of medical coding systems and diagnosis/procedure sequencing.

Responsibilities

• Assign diagnostic and procedure codes to discharged patient records.
• Coordinate follow-up on deficient or delinquent records under supervision.
• Review, code, abstract and enter diagnoses and procedures for reimbursement and compliance.
• Maintain accurate and complete coded information while protecting patient confidentiality.

What You Will Do:

Assign diagnostic and procedure codes todischargedpatient records and coordinate follow-up on deficient or delinquent records under the direction of a senior-level employee. Provide age-appropriate service as defined by the department’s scope of service.

Review,identify, code, abstract, and enter diagnoses and procedures to support reimbursement, data analysis, research, and federal regulatory compliance.

Follow up on deficient and delinquent discharge records, request missing diagnosis or procedure information, audit incomplete charts, investigate missing records, and notify the supervisor as needed.

Maintainaccurateand complete coded information, protect patient confidentiality, follow applicable HIPAA and safety requirements, and perform other duties as assigned.
