Job summary

Coinbase, a remote-first company with quarterly in-person surges, seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the Exchange team in the Institutional product group. You will build and operate real-time trading systems, including matching engines, order management, and market data, to power the world’s largest financial institutions.

You’ll own latency-sensitive backend services, ensure 24/7 reliability, and collaborate with Product and Infrastructure leadership to deliver well-scoped quarterly

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with production trading, exchange, or financial infrastructure systems at scale.
• Deep proficiency in a backend language such as Java, C++, or Go, with latency optimization and Linux performance tuning.
• Track record designing reliable distributed systems processing high volumes with uptime requirements (24/7).
• Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional teams to scope and deliver complex technical projects on clear timelines.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets; crypto experience is a plus, not a requirement.
• Uses generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive improvements.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency trading systems spanning matching, order entry, risk, and market data across cloud and colocated environments.
• Own the reliability and correctness of production systems processing high-throughput financial data 24/7, including incident response and failover design.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, and senior engineering leadership to translate strategy into quarterly deliverables and well-scoped milestones.
• Drive technical design decisions within your domain, producing clear proposals and building consensus with peers and tech leads.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code in a performance-critical backend environment (Java, C++, or Go), with a focus on latency and throughput.
