Coinbase, Inc. seeks a Senior Software Engineer for the Exchange team in the Institutional product group to build and operate real-time trading systems powering the institutional exchange.

You will own latency-sensitive backend components, contribute to reliability end-to-end, and ship features that expand Coinbase's trading capabilities.

The role emphasizes performance, scalability, and collaboration with Product and senior engineering leadership, with remote-first, quarterly in-person sessions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in production trading or financial infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Java, C++, or Go with Linux/JVM latency tuning.
• Experience designing and operating highly reliable distributed systems handling high volumes.
• Ability to work with Product and cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets; crypto experience is a plus.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency trading systems spanning matching, orders, risk, and market data.
• Ensure reliability of production systems processing high-throughput data 24/7.
• Collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, and leadership to plan quarterly milestones.
• Contribute to technical design decisions and drive consensus with peers.
• Write high-quality, performance-focused backend code (Java, C++, or Go).
