Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Exchange team within the Institutional product group to build and operate real-time trading systems powering the institutional exchange, including matching engines, order management, market data, and funding rate computation.

You will own reliability end-to-end, write performance-critical backend code, and ship features expanding Coinbase's trading capabilities for large financial institutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in production trading, exchange, or financial infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Java, C++, or Go with latency-focused optimization.
• Experience designing reliable distributed systems handling high volumes.
• Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional teams.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets; crypto experience is a plus.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency trading systems for matching, order entry, risk, and market data.
• Ensure reliability and correctness of production systems processing high-throughput data 24/7.
• Collaborate with Product, Infrastructure, and leadership to translate strategy into milestones.
• Drive technical design decisions and build consensus with peers.
• Write high-quality, well-tested backend code (Java, C++, or Go) with focus on latency.
