Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Institutional Exchange team. You will build and operate real-time trading systems powering the institutional exchange, including matching engines, order management, market data, and funding rate computation.

You will own reliability end-to-end, write high-performance code in Java, C++, or Go, and drive latency and throughput improvements. Collaboration with Product, Infra, and leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with production trading, exchange, or financial infrastructure systems at scale.
• Proficiency in a backend language such as Java, C++, or Go with latency-oriented performance tuning.
• Track record designing and operating highly reliable distributed systems.
• Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional teams on timelines and scope.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets; crypto experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency, event-sourced trading systems across matching, order entry, risk, and market data.
• Own the reliability and correctness of production systems processing high-throughput data 24/7.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, and senior leadership to translate strategy into quarterly milestones.
• Drive technical design decisions and build consensus with peers and tech leads.
• Write high-quality, well-tested backend code (Java, C++, or Go) focused on latency and throughput.
