Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Exchange team within the Institutional product group. You will build and operate real-time trading systems powering institutional exchange—matching engines, order management, market data, and funding rate computation.

You'll own reliability end-to-end, write performance-critical code, and ship features expanding Coinbase's trading capabilities while collaborating with product and leadership across cloud and on-prem environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with production trading, exchange, or financial infrastructure systems at scale.
• Proficiency in Java, C++, or Go with JVM/Linux performance tuning for latency-sensitive workloads.
• Experience designing and operating highly reliable distributed systems processing high volumes with uptime 24/7.
• Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional teams to scope and deliver complex technical projects on clear timelines.
• Genuine interest in crypto and institutional markets; deep crypto experience is a plus, not required.
• Utilizes generative AI responsibly with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate low-latency, event-sourced trading systems spanning matching, order entry, risk, and market data across cloud and colocated environments.
• Own the reliability and correctness of production systems processing high-throughput financial data 24/7.
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, and senior engineering leadership to translate strategy into quarterly deliverables and well-scoped milestones.
• Drive technical design decisions within your domain, producing clear proposals and building consensus with peers and tech leads.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code in a performance-critical backend environment (Java, C++, or Go), with a focus on latency and throughput.
