Job summary

WSP in Madison, Wisconsin, seeks a Senior Refrigeration Engineer to lead planning, analysis, and design of energy‑efficient industrial refrigeration systems for new facilities, renovations, and existing facilities. You will guide projects from concept through commissioning, mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

The ideal candidate has a Mechanical Engineering degree, PE license, 10+ years in industrial refrigeration design (ammonia systems and HVAC), and

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
PE License required.
10+ years of mechanical engineering experience focused on industrial refrigeration system design.

Responsibilities

Lead refrigeration engineering from proposals through commissioning support.
Design cold rooms, freezer rooms, blast freezers and chillers.
Calculate heat and mass balances, refrigeration loads, and system efficiency.
Prepare datasheets, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates.
Develop PFDs, P&IDs, utility flow diagrams and system schematics.
Prepare construction documents using AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Develop refrigeration plant control philosophies and narratives.
Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
Build client relationships and deliver tailored solutions within schedules and budgets.
