Job summary

Sunward is seeking an experienced Loan Underwriter to review loan documents, assess financial risk, and determine borrower creditworthiness in compliance with applicable banking regulations. The role involves making critical underwriting decisions for consumer loans and serving as a subject matter expert in the department.

Responsibilities include training new staff, supporting junior underwriters, and participating in the Credit Committee for high-complexity cases.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years’ direct experience in consumer underwriting.
• Strong knowledge of consumer credit and underwriting principles.
• Familiar with federal and state regulations affecting consumer loans.

Responsibilities

• Reviews loan documents and makes underwriting decisions.
• Acts as SME for the department and trains new staff.
• Supports questions from junior underwriters.
• Participates in the Credit Committee for high-complexity loans.
• Escalates files beyond lending authority with recommendations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
