Job summary

Renown Health is seeking an experienced outpatient coder to assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes from clinical documentation and orders, ensuring CMS guideline compliance and accurate reimbursement.

The role requires extensive outpatient coding expertise, a strong knowledge of AHA guidelines, and a credential such as AAPC or AHIMA. Collaboration with HIM leadership and CDI is essential for quality reporting and deny management.

Qualifications

• Working-level knowledge of English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Associate degree in health information management preferred.
• Minimum 10 years outpatient coding experience; trauma level II/acute care experience preferred.
• AAPC, AHIMA or Certified Coding credential required.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes from clinical documentation and orders.
• Lead accuracy in coding to support appropriate reimbursement across payers.
• Identify and address denials with HIM leadership and CDI as needed.
• Apply AHA and CMS guidelines to determine principal/secondary diagnoses and procedures.
• Support DRG assignment and ensure proper present-on-admission indicators.
