Job summary

Optum is seeking a professional medical coder to join our outpatient coding team. You will assign ICD-10 codes, CPTs, and modifiers for facility services, adhering to official coding guidelines and client guidelines. This role emphasizes accuracy, ethics, and productivity within a supportive team.

The position requires AHIMA/AAPC credentialing and 2+ years of outpatient coding experience. You will collaborate with physicians and participate in ongoing coding education and departmental meetings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• AHIMA and/or AAPC credentialing (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC) to be maintained annually.
• 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, and modifiers.
• 2+ years of experience in acute outpatient coding.
• Experience with Windows Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10, CPT and modifiers for facility services per guidelines.
• Adhere to coding guidelines and client-specific rules.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity at required levels.
• Understand APC codes and Medicare guidelines.
• Query physicians when appropriate to ensure accurate coding.
• Stay up-to-date with coding knowledge per QM Management guidance.
• Participate in department meetings and educational events.
• Additional responsibilities as identified by manager.
