Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System seeks a clinical coder to assign ICD-10 diagnoses, CPT-4 procedures, and modifiers for facilities including ER, trauma, surgeries, and interventional radiology, supporting compliant reimbursement and research through accurate medical record coding.

Under supervision, you will use EPIC and other coding tools; you will monitor timelines, maintain high accuracy, and collaborate with hospital teams to resolve billing issues while upholding AHIMA standards.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience with ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding.
• Familiarity with AHIMA coding standards.
• Strong analytical and attention to detail skills.
• Ability to work under supervision and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a clinical coding SME and analyze outpatient documentation for ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes.
• Identifies and assigns ICD-10 diagnosis codes, CPT-4 procedure codes and modifiers for ER, trauma, surgery, observation, IR, and cardiology.
• Monitors assigned work daily to facilitate the billing process within established timeframes.
• Maintains coding quality accuracy rate of 90%.
• Maintains productivity rate of at least 95%.
• Communicates with hospital departments regarding billing and registration issues.
• Complies with AHIMA standards of ethical coding and coding compliance guidelines.
• May provide support to PB Outpatient Coding Specialists and/or act as backup.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
