Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineer to support the Duane Arnold Energy Center.

This role starts as remote but will move to a hybrid arrangement with three days in the office; you will design, modify, and analyze control systems for nuclear power plants and liaise with clients.

Candidates should have ABET-approved degree and 5+ years in I&C, and PE is preferred; some travel to site may be required.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Five or more years of I&C design engineering experience.
• Experience with equipment selection, control philosophy, and design package preparation.
• Experience with controls system design for turbines, pumps, feedwater controls, and data displays.
• Experience acting as firm's client liaison in a lead engineering role.
• Experience in reviewing design documentation.
• PE license is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work in a project team to design, modify, and analyze instrumentation and control systems for power plants.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve electrical controls engineering issues.
• Develop digital systems designs: PLC, DCS, touchscreen, network switches, control systems.
• Prepare calculations, setpoints, and scales for digital/analog controls.
• Interface with vendors to review documents and prepare purchase specs.
• Prepare reports and studies presenting technical information to meet client needs.
• Mentor less experienced engineers and provide guidance.
• Assist project manager to ensure projects are on time and within budget.
