Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Minneapolis seeks an experienced Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to lead major projects for upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants. You will design I&C systems, develop procurement specs, and mentor junior engineers, collaborating with clients and internal teams.

The role emphasizes applying data, automation, and AI to improve workflows, with opportunities to work on DCS, PLC, and other control technologies across BWR and PWR reactors.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering program required with coursework in instrumentation, mechatronics and process controls design.
• Minimum 5 years of design engineering for process control systems; nuclear experience preferred.
• Experience in control system design for low/medium voltage distribution and equipment like turbines, pumps, feedwater control, and data displays.
• Experience with I&C systems design for BWR or PWR reactors, including DCS for turbine and feedwater control.
• Ability to review design drawings and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead major process controls engineering projects for upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants.
• Develop functional requirements and procurement specifications for instrumentation and control systems.
• Prepare process instrumentation replacement evaluation reports and nuclear modification packages.
• Provide guidance as a mentor to less experienced nuclear I&C design engineers.
• Attend client meetings and conduct site walkdowns to ensure client satisfaction.
