Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Senior Aerospace Propulsion Engineer to advance hypersonic propulsion for DoD programs. You will design and analyze scramjet-like flowpaths and apply high-fidelity CFD to challenging reacting flows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Aerospace/Mechanical/Physics or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and analysis of scramjet inlet, isolator, combustor, and nozzle flowpaths.
  • Apply high-fidelity CFD with finite-rate chemistry to compressible reacting flows.
  • Investigate shock trains, unstart, fuel-air mixing, ignition, and combustion stability.
  • Plan and assess verification, validation, mesh- and model-sensitivity studies.
  • Compare CFD predictions with ground-test, wind-tunnel, and flight data.
  • Diagnose unexpected results and recommend design or test changes.
  • Improve computational workflows, meshing, and HPC usage.
  • Communicate conclusions to sponsors and teams.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers.
