The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a PhD-level engineer to join the Vehicle Design and Technologies Group. You will help design, prototype, and transition advanced vehicle concepts to meet national security needs, working across propulsion, aerodynamics, thermal, materials, and structures.

Ideal candidates have deep research background in aerospace or mechanical engineering, strong collaboration and communication skills, and the ability to obtain required

Qualifications

  • Outstanding communications and collaboration skills.
  • Eligibility to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and ultimate Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Predict and model aerodynamic characteristics of air-vehicle configurations (hypersonic to UAVs).
  • Perform multi-fidelity CFD/thermal analyses for aerothermal design across flow regimes.
  • Plan and execute ground tests and design models for wind tunnel and arcjet facilities.
  • Design future conceptual vehicles with multidisciplinary system integration.
  • Optimize hypersonic propulsion designs including inlet design and flowpath analysis.
