The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a PhD-level engineer to lead modeling and simulation efforts for strategic missile and hypersonic systems. You will drive analysis, perform trade studies, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver innovative engineering solutions.

You will mentor staff, contribute to test and evaluation activities, and communicate results to government partners while preparing the next generation of flight systems for national security.

Qualifications

  • Have a PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related STEM.
  • Demonstrated passion for missile modeling and simulation, aerodynamics, flight dynamics, and related fields.
  • Experience in technical report writing.
  • Experience with presentations and public speaking.
  • Coding experience in MATLAB or Python.
  • Experience with data analysis.
  • Ability to obtain Interim Secret clearance by start date and Top-Secret clearance eventually.
  • U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and utilize modeling and simulation tools to conduct trade studies and design studies of missile and hypersonic systems.
  • Participate in test and evaluation activities including test operations and pre/post flight evaluations.
  • Use computational tools to analyze data and draw conclusions from trends.
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to advise partners on engineering challenges and trades.
  • Communicate findings to team members and government partners.
  • Evolve analysis methodologies and create novel solutions.
  • Mentor staff in new techniques and problem-solving approaches.
