Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a Software Engineer to analyze, develop, and prototype next‑generation reentry systems and hypersonic vehicles. You will join a collaborative team driving system‑level objectives and advancing ambitious defense-related technology.

The role emphasizes modeling & simulation, performance-oriented programming in C/C++, and translating analyses into actionable insights for government sponsors. U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Computer Science, Aerospace, Physics or similar).
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tools using numerical methods.
  • Experience with C, C++, or other high performance scientific languages.
  • Software design/architecture experience including library APIs and memory- and CPU-efficient code.
  • Eligibility for U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain security clearances.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance modeling and simulation software for ballistic missiles, hypersonic vehicles, and reentry systems.
  • Optimize software to leverage modern hardware and language features.
  • Own and maintain software that models complex flight systems.
  • Produce analyses and presentations communicating findings to team members, partners, and sponsors.
