Job summary

City of Charlotte, through the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), seeks an HVAC Technician II to perform skilled maintenance, troubleshooting, and preventive tasks on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems at CATS facilities, stations, and maintenance buildings.

Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the role involves diagnosing complex problems, interpreting diagrams, using BAS, and ensuring safe, reliable operation while coordinating with contractors and other trades.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required with 5+ years of HVAC maintenance/repair experience.
  • Experience maintaining rooftop units, air handlers, split systems, heat pumps, exhaust systems, and related equipment.
  • EPA refrigerant certification preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and control diagrams; use diagnostic equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain HVAC equipment including air handlers, rooftops, split systems, and heat pumps.
  • Diagnose complex HVAC issues, including electrical and control problems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and read blueprints and schematics to support repairs.
  • Use BAS to monitor alarms, conditions, and schedules; adjust as needed within procedures.
  • Document work orders, tests, and verification results; coordinate with other teams.
