Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior HV Underground Transmission Line Engineer to lead and deliver high‑voltage underground and submarine cable projects. Based in the U.S., you will coordinate with program managers and engineering teams across offices to drive design, risk assessment, and schedule management.

You will mentor Engineering Managers, oversee quality plans, and contribute to technical papers and conference presentations. Travel may be required as projects span multiple locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• PE license required.
• 10+ years of underground HV design experience (69–500 kV).
• Experience with submarine cables and HVDC underground design.
• Proficient in PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit.
• Willingness to travel and manage multiple offices.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and monitor underground line engineering projects across programs or clients.
• Lead, support, and audit project execution and quality plans and trainings.
• Ensure teams follow client standards and are trained on implementation.
• Coordinate with program managers to advise clients on technical matters.
• Monitor resources and workloads across multiple offices; address staffing needs.
• Mentor Engineering Managers on underground transmission design and proposals.
• Lead multiple projects concurrently across locations; participate in reviews.
• Develop technical papers/presentations for industry events; contribute to hiring strategy.
