Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a High Voltage Substation Inspector to support engineers and project managers in the Austin, Texas area and surrounding states. This role involves field inspections, data collection, and detailed documentation to ensure compliance with plans and codes.

The ideal candidate has extensive field inspection experience, a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to travel for extended periods. Willingness to work long days and supervise junior staff is valued.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
• 9+ years of post-education construction inspection experience.
• 5+ years of active field experience and ability to fill reports; photo documentation; Word and Excel.
• Valid state driver’s license.
• Knowledge of inspection principles, codes, regulations and record-keeping.
• Analytical mindset with strong communication skills.
• Ability to travel and stay for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Provide inspection support to engineers and project managers to ensure construction compliance with plans and specifications.
• Perform field inspections on projects of moderate scale and complexity.
• Generate accurate documentation of inspection activities and findings.
• Lead inspection tasks and staff when needed, and attend pre-construction meetings.
• Assist with risk identification, estimation, and resolution for construction issues.
• Prepare inspection plans and coordinate field work, staffing, and equipment.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level inspection staff.
• Coordinate with client and contractor personnel to schedule inspections.
• Write technical reports summarizing inspection findings with photos, sketches, and calculations.
• Travel up to project locations and work extended hours as required.
