Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an Engineer VI in Engineering Services to lead detailed electrical designs for high voltage substations and transmission projects up to 500 kV. The role requires advanced engineering knowledge, extensive experience, and the ability to mentor junior staff.

You will coordinate with customers, project teams, and other disciplines, review vendor drawings, and support proposals, estimating, procurement, and construction efforts.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering; PE license or eligible within 6 months.
• Extensive experience in T&D projects up to 500 kV.
• Strong knowledge of relay protection, coordination studies, and protective relay settings.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the relay protection & control engineering aspects on substation and transmission design projects.
• Act as a technical specialist who develops and applies advanced engineering concepts and new approaches to unusual or exceptionally complex engineering problems.
• Interface and present to multiple stakeholders (e.g. customer decision makers, project teams, etc.).
• Provide technical leadership on many large and small design projects annually across 69Kv and above scopes.
• Collect data and make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative.
• Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented problems.
• Responsible for the application of complex engineering skills requiring advanced knowledge.
• Review and approve equipment vendor drawings and sign off on testing report on major equipment from manufacturers.
• Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement and construction.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projects.
• Mentor, coach and develop junior team members.
• Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions.
• Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation of standard techniques and criteria.
• Conduct project detailed designs aligned with our customer requirements and Mortenson's best practice Standards.
• Verify that construction is in agreement with electrical engineering design drawings and QA/QC.
• Perform data analysis and advanced engineering tasks to develop designs for large and small projects.
• Develop and evaluate technical requirements for fabrication and construction tender packages.
• Initiate and maintain contact with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies.
