Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a Senior Substation Physical Engineer to provide technical and organizational leadership within our Power and Energy practice. This role focuses on HV substation design and leading a team of engineers and designers to deliver complex projects.

The position drives quality, client service, and growth, with travel 10% or less and opportunities across multiple U.S. locations. PE licensed engineers with 15+ years of experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Technology or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 15 years of related experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience considered in lieu of a degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel frequency varies by project.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, execution, and delivery of HV substation projects from 230kV to 345kV.
• Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) and technical authority for substation physical design (AIS/GIS, grounding, protection).
• Review and approve technical deliverables to meet client requirements and CDM Smith standards.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for planning through startup.
• Lead development of engineering standards and quality improvements.
