Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a senior substation engineer to oversee high voltage projects across a broad Eastern US portfolio. The role focuses on owner’s engineer duties, HV design oversight from EPC firms, and coordination with utilities to ensure proper grid integration for renewables.

The ideal candidate will have substantial HV design experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple stakeholders across engineering, procurement, and construction teams.

Qualifications

• B.S. Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power Systems.
• 7+ years of substation design experience (Physical or P&C).
• 2+ years of HV project engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee EPC contractor design and construction activities for HV substations and lines (35kV–500kV).
• Establish and maintain relationships with HV contractors and utilities.
• Review EPC designs for interconnection and reliability standards compliance.
• Provide design review and guidance on technical issues with project teams.
• Coordinate with interconnection providers to meet Transmission Provider requirements.
• Support substation commissioning by reviewing testing and coordinating with utilities/ISO.
• Collaborate with project management, development, permitting, legal, finance, and field teams.
• Travel and fieldwork up to 25%, with most projects in Eastern/Central US.
