Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a Senior Substation Engineer to oversee high voltage EPC design and commissioning for renewable energy projects in the Eastern United States. This role emphasizes owner’s engineer responsibilities, contractor oversight, and coordination with utilities and ISOs.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of HV design experience, strong schematics and power-system knowledge, and excellent communication to lead discussions with EPCs, utilities, and internal teams.

Qualifications

• BS EE with emphasis on Power Systems.
• 7+ years of substation design experience.
• 2+ years of HV project engineering experience.
• Readings of HV breaker schematics and transformers.
• Basic power system modeling knowledge.
• Understanding grid integration for renewables.
• Strong communication and leadership of technical discussions.

Responsibilities

• Oversee EPC contractor engineering design and construction for HV substations and lines (35kV–500kV).
• Establish and maintain relationships with HV contractors.
• Review Substation designs for compliance with interconnection and reliability standards.
• Provide design reviews for issues in project documentation.
• Review power system studies (load flow, short circuits, harmonics, TOV).
• Coordinate with interconnection providers to meet requirements.
• Support substation commissioning with testing coordination with utility/ISO.
• Collaborate with project team across management, development, permitting, and construction.
• Travel 25% to projects primarily in Eastern/Central US.
