Job summary

AES Corporation seeks a senior Substation Engineer to oversee HV projects for Solar, Wind, and BESS assets in the Eastern US. This role emphasizes ownership of high-voltage design from EPC partners, with a focus on grid integration and relationships with utilities.

The candidate will lead technical discussions, review complex designs, and ensure compliance with interconnection requirements while supporting field commissioning and project teams across multiple states.

Qualifications

• B.S. Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power Systems.
• 7+ years of substation design experience (Physical or P&C).
• 2+ years of project engineering in HV role.
• Readings of control schematics for HV breakers/transformers.
• Basic knowledge of load flow, insulation coordination, grounding, arc-flash, TOV, harmonics.
• Understanding of grid integration for renewables.
• Strong communication and leadership for HV EPCs, utilities, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversight of EPC contractor engineering design and construction for HV substations and transmission lines (35kV–500kV).
• Establish and maintain relationships with HV contractors.
• Review designs for interconnection and reliability standards compliance.
• Provide design review and issue resolution across project documentation.
• Review power system studies (load flows, short circuits, harmonics, etc.).
• Coordinate with interconnection providers per Transmission Provider requirements.
• Support substation commissioning with testing coordination.
• Collaborate with project teams in the field; travel 25%.
