Job summary

AES Corporation is seeking a senior substation engineer to oversee HV design and construction for solar, wind and battery projects across the Eastern US. You will coordinate with EPCs, utilities, and project teams to ensure compliant, reliable HV facilities from 35 kV to 500 kV.

The role requires strong leadership, with 7+ years in substation design and hands-on experience in HV project engineering, grid integration for renewables, and coordinating complex interconnection requirements.

Qualifications

• B.S. Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Power Systems.
• 7+ years of substation design experience (Physical or P&C).
• 2+ years of project engineering experience in HV related role.
• Proficient at reading control schematics for HV breakers and transformers.
• Knowledge of power-system modeling: load flow, insulation coordination, grounding, arc-flash, TOV, harmonics.
• Understanding of grid integration for renewables.
• Strong communication and ability to lead discussions with HV EPCs, Utilities, and stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and prioritization.

Responsibilities

• Oversee EPC contractor engineering design and construction for HV substations and lines (35kV–500kV).
• Build and maintain relationships with HV contractors.
• Review substation designs for interconnection and standards compliance.
• Provide design review and resolve technical issues in project docs.
• Review power system studies (load flow, short circuit, harmonics, TOV, etc.).
• Coordinate with interconnection providers to meet requirements.
• Support commissioning by reviewing testing and coordinating with utility/ISO.
• Work with project team across management, development, permitting, and construction.
• Travel and fieldwork ~25%, projects mainly in Eastern/Central US.
